At just over 100,000 feet, travelling at 3,000 kph (Mach 3), the sky was cold black and a translucent-blue hue hung over the curvature.

It was surely the most exhilarating experience maginable, going so fast that we were covering each mile in less than two seconds. At this point, we slowed appreciably. There wasn't enough air for the jet to push against.

I was now at the Edge of Space. Alexander and I were probably the two highest people in the world – except for the astronauts on the International Space Station.

"I have a lot of respect for the mountain." Over the past few years I have climbed the highest peaks of four continents, including the mighty Mt Aconcagua in the Andes.

I have three more peaks to summit to become one of about 198 people in history who have climbed the Seven Summits – the highest mountains of all seven of the world’s continents. My last climb of the seven will be the big kahuna itself, the high priest of all mountains – Mt Everest.

It might sound dangerous, but I’d like to be in the eye of a storm, to feel the energy, and to experience the might of nature’s rage. I imagine hurricanes to be a gigantic blur of wind and rain and things rushing by. To observe one would be spectacular, but I suspect it wouldn’t as memorable as witnessing a tornado.

What intrigues me about tornadoes is that mankind doesn’t know a whole lot about them. They are formed by the confluence of a myriad of factors, and they come together in a sideshow of pulsating energy, eerie sounds and explosive fireworks. Tornadoes are nature’s orchestras. They can be horrendously destructive, but they are so complex that they’re almost mystical.

The Bedouins I encountered were extremely friendly and accommodating to me and welcomed me into their lives.

They were from the Tuareg desert tribe. The most striking feature of the Tuaregs is that they wear blue scarves as veils to cover their heads and faces, leaving only their eyes exposed. Tuareg men believe it is impolite for their mouths or noses to be seen. The dyed indigo blue scarves are six or seven metres long, and they wind the scarves loosely around their heads and faces.

Because temperatures in the desert can climb to 48°C/120°F during daylight, layering the fabric adds insulation from the heat and extra protection against the sand, which finds its way into everything. The caravan I travelled with into the scorching desert consisted of about 15 camels and 28 tribal members.

My natural curiosity and creative spark to invigorate the mind, body and soul provided me with an unforgettable experience just recently in ancient Egypt.

The reality and power of self examination and my obsessive desire to be enchanted by the ancient principles of enlightenment enabled me to sleep alone with the Giants of History, in the Kings Chamber of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

The Giants of History consisted of Napoleon Bonaparte, Alexander the Great, Herodotus and Sir Isaac Newton. . I was drawn to the Great Pyramid of Giza searching for answers about my life, astral passage and whether there was an afterlife.

For me, I was relentless in my pursuit to pass the night in the inner sanctum with the giants of history who preceded me. With the agreed passage came the unconditional agreement that I would never reveal the identity of the men responsible for campaigning and accommodating my requests.

Just after midnight on a cold night in Cairo, I was secretly escorted to the foot of the Great Pyramid by an entourage of armed guards, pyramid gatekeepers and minders. As they unlocked the gates at the main entrance of the pyramid, I was quickly ushered in to avoid any unnecessary attention. From there I made my way alone to the King's Chamber where I was left for the night.

I advised the gatekeepers to keep the lights on for the first thirty minutes in order for me to orientate myself. Soon after that, the lights were turned out plunging me into the darkest dark I have ever experienced. Then, the metal doors clanged shut and I was entirely on my own.

This 5,000 year old grand supreme and most ancient treasured antiquity of Egypt was to become my residence for the night. Armed only with my belief system, a 1 litre bottle of water and head lamp, I allowed myself to enter a receptive frame of mind to experience whatever phenomenon existed in the Pyramid..

In early 2005, my chance came. The Shirshov Institute invited me to undertake a dive down to the most famous sunken ship in history. Initially I was asked to complete all sorts of tests, just to ensure that I was physically and mentally suitable for the adventure. There were medical and psychological tests that I had to undertake.

They were particularly concerned about any possibility of claustrophobia, because the submersibles are just 2.1m wide, particularly for three people spending 10 hours in a pressurised biosphere at the bottom of the deepest, darkest ocean. I passed the examinations, meaning the doctors were confident that I wasn’t going to “flip out”.

The people at the Shirshov Institute informed me of an expedition departing in July 2005 – and that there was only one seat left. I booked my seat. That’s how I became one of the very few people in the world to ever visit the wreck of Titanic.

The investment in diving to Titanic was equal to a deposit you’d have to put down to buy an inner city house in my native Melbourne, Australia. For me, it was worth every cent.
